The summer fireworks, set off for about 10 minutes each day during the holidays, are a reason to ask for a lake-facing room when booking if you want to watch from your room. The meals left me wondering if they were prepared in-house. They seemed like kaiseki-style dishes ordered from a nearby restaurant, and the food was cold or clearly reheated. The bath also felt more like a large public bath than a hot spring. There were quite a few elderly bathers who seemed to be regulars rather than hotel guests. From their behavior and the way they treated the staff, they didn’t seem suitable as guests. I also found the systems and service old-fashioned, though not in a bad way. It felt like a resort run by a large company. The hotel itself is old but reasonably clean.

We stayed in a Japanese-style room with futon bedding, overlooking Shibayama Lagoon. The area was fairly quiet and peaceful, even though there are many hot spring inns and hotels across the shore. It’s only a few minutes from the Katayamazu Interchange. Dinner with local ingredients, including sashimi, was delicious, and the service was attentive. The large public bath has a sauna and a cold spring, though the cold spring fits only a small number of people. It was very refreshing. Private parking is free.

The woman working at breakfast was very talkative and left a strong impression on me. The breakfast itself was delicious. When I stayed before, I noticed JA (Japan Agricultural Cooperatives) logos on the posters and towels. I’m not sure if JA runs the place or if it’s part of their group, but the amenities had a similar feel.

We had our 60th birthday reunion here and really enjoyed the room, food, and bath. It’s about a 10-minute taxi ride from the newly opened Kaga Onsen Station. Apparently there are fireworks every day in August.

The kids were happy with the wide range of children’s meals, and ate everything. We had a clean, spacious private room for our meal, with an elegant feel, and they even offered seconds of rice. Our family really enjoyed the stay and would definitely come again. Katayamazu IC is conveniently close. The room was clean, and we chose one with a private bath, including a cauldron bath. Glass walls in the bathroom and changing area made the space feel transparent and stylish. The bath and toilet were clean and hygienic. There were also lots of children’s amenities, like baby soap, high chairs, and yukata-sized robes. The kids had plenty to do, from table tennis and karaoke to board games, shooting games, blocks, picture books, and souvenirs. The staff were cheerful and kind, too. The hotel itself is beautiful, with a great view of Lake Shibayama. The large lounge windows make the scenery especially impressive. At 9 PM, we watched fireworks over the lake from our room window, close enough to see the launch site. We also appreciated having plenty of time in the clean, tidy public bath. Both the kids and the rest of the family were very satisfied.
