Ryokan Shibaya

For a budget guesthouse in the city, this was a great stay. It's very clean, has plenty of amenities, and the staff are kind and helpful. The location is nice, close to the station. The rooms are small, so taller or larger people may have trouble getting into bed. The walls are thin, which can make things noisy if you're not careful turning around or getting into bed and bumping them. I'd recommend it.

The shared bathroom and toilet were consistently clean, which I appreciated. But the place was much tighter and busier than we expected, and even with small suitcases we couldn't open our bags in the tiny room. The kitchen was hard to use because a family of eight kept taking up the space. Next door, an eight-year-old ran around making noise even at midnight, and the adults left their bedroom door open, so it was hard to sleep. We were glad we'd booked just one night. If you need good sleep or have large luggage, I'd avoid it.

The room is small but has all the facilities. The owner was kind and helpful, and we could leave our luggage there to make our trip easier.

I was shown two rooms, and both had lots of bed bugs. I got out of there quickly, then had to spend the evening searching for somewhere else to stay while exhausted. It seemed the host knew about the problem: bugs were spread around, including some large ones that were still alive.
