Karuizawa Loghotel Shiozawa no Mori

The cabins are about ten minutes by car from Karuizawa station, tucked far enough from the main road to stay very quiet. Mine was spotless, though the furnishings and decor felt a bit dated. It had a small kitchen with clean dishes and glasses, a fridge, a shower and bath, two upstairs rooms, a TV, and a patio with a table and chairs. Shiozawa Lake & Karuizawa Taliesin and their facilities are about a ten minute walk away, and there’s a supermarket and convenience store roughly ten minutes away too. The staff were friendly and gave directions, sightseeing information in Japanese, and bus timetables, though there aren’t many buses. Bikes are available to rent, but I thought the price was high even for just an hour. There’s a tennis court and badminton equipment for rent. You can arrange a barbecue or fondue to be delivered to the cabin to cook, or eat at the on-site restaurant, which has excellent but pricey international food. If you pay for breakfast, fresh bread and coffee arrive at your door at a time you choose before the 10.00am checkout. I’d happily stay again. Some services may be seasonal, so check the website when planning.
