This place feels like it’s kept all the dirt and grime from its past as a gym turned hotel, supposedly set up by the Smokers Guild in the 90s. The location isn’t worth giving up your self-respect. In any other country, you could easily go missing here.

I chose this hotel for the Kobe Marathon because it was reasonably priced compared with my other options. Motomachi station is only a few minutes away on foot, and Chinatown is on the next block, so I enjoyed the street food there. I could also walk to the marathon start, and the hotel kept my bag after checkout. My only real downside was how cramped the room was. I had a hard time stretching out.

The location’s very good, and breakfast was free, but the hotel was lousy for what we paid. We expected a small double room, but the A/C was awful, more like a humidifier. Add the small, mouldy bathroom and you could imagine being in the tropics. I’d only stay if the deal was REALLY good, like if they paid YOU.
