Hotel Gakuya Sakura-Kan

I booked three nights, but I was required to leave the room every day from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. That applied even when I didn't want housekeeping. If you stay in the room, they charge JPY 1,000 for every hour. There were no exceptions.

Breakfast was included in the room price, which was about 3,500 yen. The hotel itself is a little old, but everything worked well. Best of all, it's only a five-minute walk from kochi station.

The price was low, but the rooms were tiny. In the middle of the day, staff wouldn't let me into my own room.

Parking was my biggest headache. There isn't a hotel lot, and nearby coin parking was often full, so finding a space was a struggle. It cost ¥500-¥600 for 12 hours, but figuring out those 12-hour periods was awkward. Regular parking would be over ¥1,000. I guess that's hard to avoid this close to the station. The exterior has a quiet, old-fashioned look, and the elevators and hallways feel dated too. The rooms have been renovated, though, and the beds are clean. The bathtub, sink, and other plumbing are older, but the toilet has a washlet. The front desk staff were cheerful and polite. Basic amenities were set out by the elevator, so I didn't run into any problems. Breakfast is included for ¥8,500. Just give your voucher to the front desk, and they'll prepare it. You can eat at your own pace in the breakfast area beside reception. There's a drinks corner, though it's pretty limited. The serving felt a little small, but for the price I suppose it's fair. One more grilled fish would've been nice. It wasn't too crowded, which made it a relaxing place to stay.
