We stayed at Sansuien in Kochi for a wedding and had a wonderful time from beginning to end. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with a peaceful feel, and the service was warm and attentive. The venue paired traditional Japanese charm with lovely, quiet garden views. Everything was thoughtfully arranged, and the food was excellent, fresh, seasonal, and beautifully presented. A special place for a celebration and a relaxing stay.

The hot spring bath was spacious and relaxing, and breakfast had a pretty good range, including some local specialties. We also enjoyed a complimentary welcome drink at the in-house bar, made with fruit from Kochi. This is a historic hotel, and the physical room keys give it a traditional feel. Credit cards are accepted.

The bar was the highlight for me. I had a great time chatting in English, which is rare where I live, so I appreciated that. It's close to the castle and breakfast was solid. The smoking room was... tiny, to put it mildly.

The hotel may be old, but I'd still make it my first choice in Kochi. The food is excellent and the bath is great. There's character in the neighborhood too, with the castle and museum nearby and an interesting walk along the Kagami River.

This is a long-established hotel by the river, though the entrance is on the northwest side of the building rather than facing the water. The facilities are decent, but the interiors, rooms, and onsen all feel quite dated and could use an upgrade.
