It’s about a 12-minute walk from the train station, which was manageable for us. But take note if you have big suitcases: there’s no elevator, and the second floor is up nearly 50 steps. The Airbnb is pretty sparse on amenities. Towels and a brush are provided, but there aren’t basic kitchen things like plates or cutlery. There were only two small 150 ml cups.

It’s a bit of a distance from the town center.

The noise from next door carries quite clearly. If you get too loud late at night, you’ll probably be asked to quiet down. We stayed as a couple and found the room much more spacious than the word “little” in the name suggests. It was very clean and well kept, and self-check-in went smoothly. The private space felt relaxing, almost like home. The kitchen and amenities were good, and it was nice to shop nearby and have drinks in the room. Kumamoto Station is an easy walk away, and the location is fantastic. It’s good value, especially if you want a home-like stay instead of a standard hotel. I’d definitely come back as a base for sightseeing or work in Kumamoto.
