Kurashiki Global Hotel

For a solo guest, this is probably the best-value hotel in Kurashiki, just steps from the railway station. The rooms are tiny, but clean and comfortable, with more space and privacy than a capsule. The front desk was helpful.

I booked six months ahead for AUD$43 per night, and that kind of price for a single room with its own shower is hard to find in Japan. Kurashiki station is a 3-5 minute walk away, and the Bikan historical area takes about 10 minutes on foot. The room is small and has no table or kettle, but I liked being able to open the window and look out over the city. At a lot of cheap hotels in Japan you can't open the window, and that makes me feel depressed. The older gentleman at reception was so nice, like a grandpa.

I spent one night there last year and wouldn't stay again. The photos don't reflect what it's really like. It's extremely small and has a strong smell. I felt uneasy the whole time because it seemed like a special “Hotel.” I love Japan, but I found this place disgusting and wouldn't recommend it for your safety or health.

The location is the best part. The rooms are small, but clean and have what you need. The price is really attractive.
