A quiet place in a residential area, though the hill up from Kusatsu center is fairly steep and the walk takes a bit. It seems especially suited to solo travelers or pairs. The shared bathroom and sinks gave it a bit of a dorm feel. My room was traditional, with tatami floors, and had enough space for two. There were also individual onsens beside the shower room, which felt homey.

We stayed during a bike tour in October 2025. After we let the host know in advance, they set out floor mats and a small bike stand so we could keep our bikes clean inside the room. That saved time and spared us the hassle of packing them into rinko bags or leaving them outside. The facilities were clean and modern, and the private Onsen was lovely. It's a 10-15 minute walk to the main square.

The kitchen was clean and cute, and looked good for cooking with local ingredients. The private onsen was cozy and welcomes tattoos. Endo-san kindly helped us carry our heavy luggage up the stairs.

The staff are incredibly friendly, and the hotel blends modern touches with an old-fashioned style. The room was spacious and comfortable, with an authentic bath. The kitchen and common room were clean and modern too. The one drawback is the uphill location, about a 10-minute walk away. I'd recommend it if you're driving, or if you're taking public transport and don't mind a walk. 10/10.
