Toyoko Inn Hokkaido Kushiro Juji Gai

The front desk staff were really friendly and gave us city guides since it was our first time in Kushiro. The hotel sits between Kushiro JR station and Nusamai bridge, so it's easy to walk to either one. You can also get on foot to the area with late-night food.

The room was comfortable and nice, and breakfast was free.

The usual Toyoko inn standards were very good. Kushiro Toyoko inn is about an eight-minute walk from Kushiro station, which is awkward with big suitcases, but there's a free pickup at regular intervals. My last stay was an unusual one. We arrived the day after last year's major Hokkaido earthquake, and at check-in they told us the room had no working water, shower, or electricity. They said not to use the toilet because that wasn't working either. All we got for light was fresh batteries for a small torch. We didn't reach the room until well past midnight, basically just in time to go to bed. In the morning, the staff had managed to prepare breakfast, the simplest kind under the circumstances. Clean and tidy, as you'd expect in Japan, and the customer service was good. The hotel has a shuttle bus. During quieter hours, you need to contact the front desk to arrange a station pickup.
