New Marutaso

New Maruta Minshu has been renovated, and the host was very welcoming. Parking is easy, right in front of the house, and it's a five-minute walk to the beach. The onsen is a private session rather than being separated for men and women, so a couple can bathe together by locking the door. It runs until midnight, and you can also have a morning soak before breakfast. Recommended.

A lovely place with a very kind host and hot spring water.

I spent three nights at Minshuku New Maruta-so while accompanying students from Australia. The location is excellent, just a five-minute walk from Kotohiki Beach, which made it easy to enjoy the sea and go for walks in the morning and evening. Inside, beautiful oil paintings by the landlady, Ms. Maruta, add to the experience. Her work has even been shown at the Nikaten art exhibition. I was especially impressed by the dining room painting, which brings together colors from a loom used to weave Tango crepe silk and artifacts unearthed from ancient tombs. The landlady and her husband were very friendly, and the staff made the place feel warm and welcoming. My room was comfortable, and I slept well and felt refreshed each day. The three baths and hot spring helped me recover from the travel fatigue, both physically and mentally. Meals featured plenty of local seafood and were all excellent. The fugu soup and fresh sashimi were unforgettable. Warm hospitality, good food, comfortable rooms and baths, and art made this a wonderful inn. I recommend it with confidence.

Thanks for such a kind welcome. The staff were friendly, and the place worked well for a family with children. It's close to Kotohiki Beach and among several guesthouses. Parking fits four cars, including a slightly lowered car with an overhang measuring 1.9m wide and 5m long, though the entrance is narrow and might make less confident drivers nervous. The building is clean and the room is spacious. It should fit two adults and two children, though there might be a little noise. The shared toilet was clean and didn't bother us. My mother, who is usually disabled, was very happy with the hot spring bath and its handrails. There are three separate baths, which children may enjoy choosing between. The washing machine was useful, and although there's no dryer, they were able to accommodate that. Some things to keep in mind: the futons are thin, so people used to thicker ones might get back pain. The stairs have handrails, but they're steep and the steps are high, so anyone with mobility issues should be careful. If you're staying with grandparents, make sure it's safe. The food was all crab, crab, crab, and even though I wasn't a big fan, I've come to love it! The sashimi boat was delicious too. The full course included steamed, grilled and tempura crab, plus hotpot and sashimi. They did almost all the crab preparation for us, which was great since we didn't know how to shred it. We could focus on eating, and everyone went quiet 😑 lol. It was so good we were completely absorbed. We were very happy and will come again!
