The bathroom was a little small, but the hotel was very clean and the price was great. The owner was especially kind and helpful. She speaks English fluently and has a history in the USA. She offered to call a taxi to check the fare, suggested taking the train instead if it was cheaper, and gave us great directions. On our last day, I had bought a ticket to an amusement park but didn't have time to use it. The owner offered to go instead and pay for the ticket for me! I traveled to Japan for the first time in March with a friend, and this was such an amazing experience. I especially recommend the hotel to English-speaking visitors, though it would be good for anyone looking for a place to stay.

The owner welcomed us with a chocolate for the New Year, a lovely touch on my first trip to Kyoto. The staff, mostly Filipinos, were very friendly and could speak English. The cozy hotel is within 30 minutes of the famous spots.

Standard rooms can be quite small, so if possible, get a room with a balcony. The views are beautiful. The location is great, very close to the subway, and the areas and rooms were clean. Entry to the building is secured with a code. The staff have been fluent in English and really helpful, taking care of all our requests so far. They can even provide umbrellas if you need one.

I left my phone at Hiroshima train station, and the staff went out of their way to call and figure out how to get it back to me. It was finally returned to me in Tokyo! That level of service was second to none. This cute hotel has a clean, cozy room and a great location, within 30 minutes of any major Kyoto attraction. Absolutely amazing stay. Thank you ATO hotel!!!

The room and bathroom were a decent size, though they'd feel small compared with hotels in Western countries, where rooms tend to be bigger. There are several public transport options nearby. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay close to Kyoto University, with a FamilyMart convenience store nearby too.
