The receptionists were helpful and had great recommendations, and after a few days the place felt like home. It’s central, and I’d stay again. The twin room is tiny, with two bunk beds, but works if you mainly need somewhere to sleep and would rather avoid a dorm. Shared spaces are clean, and guests are expected to keep things quiet. With just two washer-dryers for dozens of people and limited hours for using them, expect a wait. You can dry clothes on the roof, but only if you’re sure there won’t be a sudden shower. In late June or early July, there will be one any day.

For a hostel, it was unusually quiet, thanks to the hotel’s policy, and very clean, including the showers and rooms. The single room was tiny, basically a bed with about half a meter between it and the door, but that’s fine for me since I mainly use a hotel to sleep before going sightseeing. I arrived on 1.1 January and was offered New Year’s soup, which was really nice. I stayed from 1.1 to 4.1 2014 and had a great time. The subway station is only a few meters away, and Kyoto station is about a 30-minute walk. Plenty of sights are within walking distance too. I’d recommend this hostel to anyone looking for a good price, location, and cleanliness.

My husband and I had a comfortable, clean stay, with a good atmosphere, a fair price, and a great location. The walls are paper-thin, though, so light sleepers should bring earplugs. There’s free soap in the showers and hair dryers, and towels can be rented for 100 yen.

Khaosan is very central, with lots of interesting spots within walking distance, including Nishiki market. The staff are friendly and all speak English. Rooms smell lovely and are clean, and the beds are comfortable. I believe there are bathrooms and showers on every floor. Each bed has an assigned locker for securing valuables. The lobby has information about places to see and restaurants to try. A very good hostel.

There’s a place to chat with other guests, and a baggage room where you can leave your bags. The dormitory is good, though you need to keep quiet when sharing with others. Hospitality is very good and the facilities are sufficient. Some toilets don’t have bidets, which matter a lot to guests from Indonesia.
