The location is excellent, right by Sanjo metro station, around a 5-10 minute walk from the shopping district and 10-15 minutes from Gion’s historic area. Museums are also a short walk away, and there’s a family mart across the road for snacks and drinks. Service at the desk was warm and helpful, especially with our luggage transfers. The hotel is beautiful and thoughtfully laid out, from the entrance to the complimentary mini lounge with tea, coffee, and candy. Our room wasn’t huge, but it wasn’t tiny compared with other hotels. The bed was HUGE, with a small tatami area for relaxing. Amenities were top tier, including facial kits, pyjamas, and a pillow menu, and the finishes and upkeep were immaculate. Breakfast was good, with limited halal choices but a fair selection of vegetarian food like eggs, fruit, salads, rice, cereals, yoghurt, and some bread. As part of the Banyan group, you expect a certain level of service and luxury, and Dhawa Yura delivered. Great location, service, and value for money. Highly recommended.

The breakfasts were superb, with a broad mix of Japanese and Western choices. There were lovely rice toppings I can’t find in the UK, like perilla kelp and the tiniest dried prawns I’ve ever seen. The miso soup was among the best I’ve had, the fried fish was perfect, and the green tea was delicious and high quality. The chefs are a credit to the hotel. Transport is easy from here, with Sanjo railway station and bus stops close by for trips to Arashiyama or the Tori gates at Fushimi Inari. Gion and the covered Nikishi market area are easy to walk to, and taxis are always going up and down outside. I stayed four nights at the end of my Japan trip and loved it. The room was smallish but beautifully designed and maintained, clean and comfortable, and the staff were first class, friendly, and helpful. I honestly have nothing negative to say. It was my favorite hotel of the trip, and I highly recommend it.

The lobby decor really stood out, and coffee and tea were available around the clock. I enjoyed the varied, very good food as well. Staff at both the reception and restaurant were lovely, and I was very pleased with the stay. If I come back to Kyoto, I’ll definitely stay here again.

The staff made the stay, especially Adhikari in the restaurant, who was thoughtful and memorable. The beds and bathrooms in the rooms were great, though closet space was tiny. The TVs are brand new, but there’s no Wi-Fi network for them, so I had to rent an HDMI cable from the front desk. That’s a strange issue and seems easy to fix by having IT set up a network for the TVs. Otherwise, it’s a great hotel, and I do recommend it.

Dhawa Yura Kyoto feels calm inside even though it’s conveniently located, and the modern, understated design suits Kyoto. The property is polished and seems carefully maintained. Service is discreet and professional, with staff helping efficiently without intruding. It doesn’t lean on over-the-top luxury, but offers steady comfort and quality. For travelers who care about cleanliness, ease, and balance, it’s a dependable base in the city.
