You do need cash to pay, which was the only downside for me. Otherwise, it was great value and the location worked well, about a five-minute walk from Nijo station, with easy, cheap connections to Kyoto’s sights. I stayed five nights and loved the traditional feel. Just keep in mind the sleeping and sitting arrangements are futons and Tamai mats, which may not suit everyone.

We had a great stay with the kids, and Kyoto itself is beautiful, with really lovely people. Everything was comfortable, and the owner was so nice. I’d happily stay here again.
