Hinaya Gojo

We spent the evening in and cooked dinner in the kitchen, which had plenty of room to prepare a delicious meal. The property is spacious enough for a family of four, and the beds were very comfortable. It’s close to the road, though set back a little through a private ally way, and we heard little to no traffic overnight or in the morning. When we first entered, I noticed how spotlessly clean the place was and how beautifully finished everything looked. It was one of the most comfortable, enjoyable nights of our recent trip to Japan. I’d highly recommend it to friends or anyone looking for a wonderful night’s sleep in Kyoto.

The bedrooms were versatile and very comfortable. The Western beds were a little firmer than I like, but still good. The place is beautifully done, with all the conveniences we needed and local touches especially in the kitchen and bathrooms. The pictures are accurate. We stayed here for our honeymoon and honestly didn’t want to go home. It feels luxurious and well worth the money. The staff were kind and helpful with any issues, and left us a lovely congratulatory wedding gift. Also, the cafe at the check-in machiya has great food. I’d definitely stay again.

Getting there was easy, about a ten-minute bus ride from Kyoto Station, and the location was great. This exquisite machiya comfortably sleeps four and blends traditional style with modern comforts. We had a fantastic night’s sleep, with the best bedding of our whole stay in Japan. Everything was sparkling clean and well equipped: underfloor heating, laundry detergent for the washing machine, an iron and ironing board, nice coffee and tea, a rice cooker, microwave, and more. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.

The bath was a highlight, it filled itself to the temperature you selected. They also arranged luggage transport to the accommodation, which was perfect. I stayed three nights and have no regrets. The location was fantastic, close to Kiyomizu-Dera. You can walk there in about 15 minutes early in the morning, before the busloads of tourists arrive. I’d recommend staying here and look forward to trying one of the other Machiya’s next time I’m in Kyoto.
