The location made it easy to walk around, and we could reach local sights by cab or train. I liked having both modern and traditional areas, updated amenities on each side, and a lovely private garden by the traditional section. The kotatsu was a nice touch too. There were some drawbacks. The beds were extremely firm, and the washers didn’t dry clothes properly. Humidity made laundry hard to dry, while the air conditioners’ “dehydrate” mode didn’t seem to work. The traditional side could’ve been cleaner, especially the dusty lampshade and stairs. Those stairs are narrow and steep, and several upstairs outlets near the beds on that side didn’t work. Space may also feel limited depending on the size of your group.

We found a tucked-away area with three extra beds, which eased our worries about fitting a family of six. The place was around $400 a night and felt worth it. The neighborhood was lovely, with a convenience store and two supermarkets within a five-minute walk. The kitchen was complete, the amenities were good, and free Wi-Fi meant we could save our SIM cards. Those steep stairs gave us a few accidental scares, but we had a great stay and were very satisfied 😁
Tsuru is on a peaceful side street in Kyoto, yet two supermarkets and a 7-11 are only about a five-minute walk away. The window panes are thin, so we could hear children chatting on their way to school. Inside, there are four double beds and a dining table for six. The full kitchen has an IH stove and dishes, and there’s a modern toilet plus a full bath and shower with a double vanity. I enjoyed the space and amenities during my few nights there. It was comfortable and reasonably priced, and I’d stay again on my next trip.
I’ve stayed at different Shiki properties while visiting Kyoto for work, and so far none have let me down.
