The countryside around here was the highlight for us, from Matsue and Densai mountain to the deep valleys south and Bitchu vastle. We had some glorious drives. This was our second FBM hotel on the road trip, and easily our favorite. We stayed three very comfortable nights, from the 18th to the 21st of February. The room was immaculate, with wonderfully soft sheets and pillows. The staff were excellent, especially one Japanese gentleman whose name I’m sorry I’ve forgotten. He always made us smile and went well beyond what he needed to do. There’s a little roadside diner across the road for breakfast, and a 7/11 about a kilometer away. The nearby restaurants were much better than at the Hyogo FBM. We quickly became big fans of the FBM hotels. Highly recommended.

The reception gave us a map with suggestions for places to visit and restaurants to try. When we were heading out, the gentleman there asked if we were going to an onsen and gave each of us a towel bag, which was thoughtful since many day-use onsens expect you to bring your own towels. The room was quite spacious, with a sliding divider between the sleeping space and the wash basin and bathroom. There’s no restaurant in the hotel, but the lobby has a kitchenette and dining area, plus an ice machine, coffee, tea, miso soup packets, a microwave and utensils. A small shop sells drinks, cup noodles, alcohol and snacks. The 7/11 is a two-minute drive away. We had a really lovely stay and felt very welcome.

The hotel sits beside Michi-no-Eki Kazenoie in the Hiruzen-Kogen Highlands, with Jersey cattle grazing in the surrounding countryside. From here, the seasonal colors and views of Mount Daisen and the Hiruzen Three Peaks are beautiful, and worth coming back to see again. It also makes a handy base for exploring Okayama's scenic Yamanori Valley and its striking rock formations.

We meant to stay just one night in March 2024, but liked the peaceful feel so much that we ended up staying three. Parking was easy, the laundry facilities were good, and they had complimentary miso, tea and drinks. We really enjoyed our time here. I forgot to leave a review back then.

The location is handy, right by the expressway, with a few restaurants nearby and a 7-11 just a short drive away. Parking was a decent size and we found a spot without any trouble. The hotel also sells snacks and drinks. I stayed for one night this past weekend and was happy with it. I’m a fan of Fairfield Inns in Japan, especially because the American-style beds and pillows are comfortable for me. I struggle with pillows in many Japanese hotels, but not here. The service has been wonderful at every Fairfield Inn I’ve stayed in, and the staff are consistently friendly and helpful. My room had a hair dryer, hot water pot, cups, tea and coffee. There’s only a shower, which suits me, though some people may prefer a bathtub.
