Dormy Inn Matsumoto Natural Hot Spring

The hot spring, with both indoor and outdoor baths, was really nice. The hotel is a gem, just a six-minute walk from the station, and check-in was quick. Train-station hotels in Japan are often small, so we usually book twin rooms. This one had a separate sink outside the bathroom, which was great.

The rooftop onsen is what brought me back, and I was happy to return. There’s plenty of space in the indoor and outdoor baths, with a clear view of the sky from outside. I also liked that the free laundry is right there in the onsen area, so I could start a wash and relax while it ran. After bathing, the complimentary ice cream felt like a treat, with several flavors to try. It’s a simple hotel but has what you need, plus a few useful extras. A microwave made breakfast easy. The place felt safe, with mostly local guests rather than pushy tourists. Staff were friendly and helped with recommendations and forwarding luggage.

The 9th-floor onsen has a cold bath and sauna, so be sure to check it out. The hotel is modern and clean, and sits in a great spot beside the museum and castle. Highly recommend.

It’s close to the main sights, station, and bus terminal, and costs a reasonable amount. The amenities feel like more than you’d expect at this price, including free washing machines, a low-cost dryer, and an onsen with refreshments.
