Very unclean.

The room was clean and the bed comfortable. There was only one bathroom, though, and no towels.

The location was pretty perfect if you don’t mind a ten-minute walk, but the stay itself was terrible. The website said there was Wi-Fi, then we arrived and were told it was broken. There was no housekeeping, and all the rooms had to share one bathroom and one shower. We had booked for three and specifically requested three mattresses, but found only one. We were meant to check ourselves in, with nobody there to greet us or show us the facilities, so we contacted customer service. A man came and said there had been a misunderstanding, and that extra mattresses would cost more. We ended up agreeing to use one mattress without an extra charge. Luckily, one of us had brought an air mattress.

The building is old, but it could be a nice, clean inn with the right care. There are plenty of guesthouses that manage to offer proper hospitality, so I was really disappointed here. I was glad to find an affordable room during the busy Obon season, but at check-in I was told the private room had no lock. That felt unacceptable, regardless of the low price. Even a basic lock on the bathroom door would have been enough. The person helping me seemed like a part-timer and didn’t know much when I asked questions. Cleaning didn’t seem to be part of their job, since dust was left on the floor and furniture. The men’s urinal was dirty and unusable, and the sink area looked as if it hadn’t been wiped in a while. The bath mat and slippers were surprisingly old too. They should replace them with inexpensive new ones from a 100-yen store.
