The hosts were so sweet and welcoming, and gave me really helpful advice about places to visit. They also accommodated my needs despite some language barriers. Breakfast was homemade Japanese food, fish, miso soup, eggs, and rice, and it was filling and really good. The accommodation itself is simple, but I'm glad I stayed here.

The location is hard to beat, just a minute or two from Dogo Onsen, restaurants, and the train station. Be sure to visit Isaniwa shrine across the street! The owner was very kind and went out of his way to help, including showing me where I could park my rental motorcycle for free overnight. We also got a larger room after another guest canceled. The staff really made sure we were looked after. It's a Minshuku, so it's affordable because it's family run and some amenities may be missing. We had to buy our own soap, for example.

The hotel and service were extremely poor. It was very dirty, and the owner was extremely overbearing. Honestly, I don't recommend it.

I loved the cozy, homey feel and the warm welcome from the owners. This was one of the highlights of my trip to Ehime in June 2025, and it's a great value for the Dogo Onsen area. The Showa-era atmosphere is charming, and I'd definitely return if I visit Ehime again. The owner made a lovely end to our stay, chatting with us over breakfast, showing us souvenirs from his travels, and sharing tips on places to see in Shikoku. My Japanese isn't great, but he made an effort to talk with us and even gave us a Mikan. It was a heartwarming experience. The hotel also tries to help both Japanese and foreign guests with photos and simple English explanations. We paid 14,000 yen total for two people, including breakfast, and booked directly on the Hotel Villa Dogo website. It looks a little old fashioned, but it's easy to use, and I recommend booking directly instead of using Agoda or another site. Our room came with a yukata for visiting the onsen around Dogo, comfortable beds, and all the toiletries we needed. The toilet was very clean, with a washlet and cute pink tiles, and there were cups and a tea set in the room. I was touched to arrive and find that the owners had already turned on the air conditioner to cool the room, remembering the arrival time we'd given them. The stairs could be a challenge if you have a lot of luggage. There may also be a slight lingering smell in the building, as smoking was apparently allowed indoors until around 2020. This isn't a five-star luxury resort and isn't advertised as one, so guests should have reasonable expectations. For the price, it was more than adequate. It's an affordable, quirky, well-equipped place to stay.

The service was pleasant, but the guest rooms didn't feel clean. Dust flew up when the futon was laid out, and by checkout day my eyes were bloodshot and my nose was stuffy. The towels smelled fishy, and the toilet door wouldn't lock. For a comfortable stay, I'd choose a better inn elsewhere instead of saving money here. It would be better to pitch a tent somewhere around there.
