Sunset View Hotel Kehinoumi (Awajishima)

The views are beautiful, the food was excellent, and the drink service and staff were friendly. But because our family shared a room, I slept on a futon that was so thin my back hurt after a night right above the hard floor. I've seen lots of others raise the same issue. MANAGEMENT, PLEASE UPGRADE THE FUTONS ASAP. This is a serious problem!

The town itself doesn't have much going on, so expect to spend most of your time in the room or at the onsen. We got a good off-season deal and wanted to try an onsen resort while visiting Japan. The rooms were spacious and traditional, and the onsens were lovely and quiet. The traditional Japanese meals were very good, but dinner service was disappointing. The waiter paid noticeably more attention to the Japanese tables than to our tourist group, and even said he didn't speak much English. We managed to communicate, but I was surprised by the language barrier at a hotel that advertises so much English-speaking service.

The staff were attentive, helpful, and professional throughout our stay, and the hot spring bath was very relaxing. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious. The hotel sits by the sea, with every room facing west, so the sunset view is beautiful. Inside, it's lovely too, especially the large staircase by the entrance. I'd happily stay here again.

There weren't many hotels of this calibre in the area, and I was happy with my stay. It was clean and quiet, with a nice ocean view, good amenities, complimentary drinks, and good service. Some parts of my room could use refurbishing, but otherwise it was a good stay.
