There are several good restaurants and a cozy café inside Mito Plaza Hotel, with Japanese and Western food. The lobby has a calm, old-fashioned Western feel, with classic furniture, big chandeliers, and soft classical music. It feels stately as soon as you arrive. The hotel also puts its history on display, with signs noting more than 300 years of heritage. Outside, things are fairly quiet. There’s a McDonald’s and a convenience store across the street, but not much shopping or sightseeing around, and Mito Station is some distance away. The hotel’s charm and amenities make up for that.

The courtyard garden feels like a quiet green escape, carefully landscaped and linked to several of the hotel's restaurants, so you can eat with a view of it. Inside, the grand lobby has high ceilings and crystal chandeliers that give the place an opulent but elegant feel. This 300-year-old hotel makes that impression right from the entrance.

The Japanese breakfast was amazing, and guests can park for free. The rooms are very spacious too. The huge lobby and classic feel make this probably the best and most high-end hotel in Mito!

The suite was a good choice, and I wasn't disappointed. The room was clean and polished, with careful attention to detail, and the service was excellent. It was very professional and strict, a bit much for me since I'm used to the Hawaiian "aloha" and informality where I live. We asked for a late checkout because our flight wasn't until 9 PM. They wouldn't budge on charging 30% of the room rate for every hour after the 11 AM checkout. At that price, we could have stayed near Narita Airport for a day. The hotel is also quite far from Mito town and the train station, with little to see or do nearby. There is a chapel if you want to get married.
