Super Hotel Miyazaki

The front desk staff weren’t much help, perhaps because they weren’t prepared to assist guests speaking English. Breakfast also had very few options. The room was far too small for a big or tall person, and the restroom and shower bath seemed suited only to petite guests.

The onsen is the best I’ve had, really warm and clean. This was my second stay with this hotel chain, after visiting its Tokyo location, and the service was great. Breakfast is included and delicious, served from 7 to 9am. Getting here takes a little effort. It’s about 15 minutes from Miyazaki Station, and you can take a bus part of the way and walk, which might save five minutes. City Hall and Tachikobana Street are nearby, with shops, restaurants, and bars. There’s also a Mega Don Quiote about a 10-minute walk down the same street, plus plenty of Lawsons, Family Mart, and 7 Eleven for drinks or a quick bite. The hotel was very clean, and staff were helpful, making it a good base for exploring the prefecture. The main inconvenience is having to leave the premises between 10am and 3pm. Cleaning costs extra, but they change towels and remove trash daily. Leave the used items outside your door before 10am, and they’ll hang fresh towels and garbage bags on the doorknob.

The entrance PIN code isn’t very friendly for elderly people, and the breakfast selection is limited. The front desk service was especially poor because of the night shift woman with glasses. She couldn’t speak even basic English, and when I asked for another pillow, she wouldn’t give me one until I asked repeatedly. That bad attitude is mainly why I’m giving one star.

A good budget option near the city center, with plenty of car parks nearby. Breakfast was great, and the menu changed a little each day.
