Auberge Amanohashidate

We booked directly with the hotel and paid less than on the accommodation booking sites. They were very friendly and let us store our bags. The location is excellent, just 150m from the Bus / Train and very close to the sandbar. The rooms are comfortable and waterfront, and we enjoyed the restaurant. You can use the Onsen at the larger hotel next door at no charge. Breakfast is there too, and about ¥800 cheaper if you pay up front.

This is really an annex of the bigger hotel next door, where guests go for the onsen and breakfast. I didn’t like the cigarette bin by the entrance, since you can smell smokers when going in and out.

It was decent, though I felt it was quite pricey for what I paid. There’s no lift, and toilets are shared unless you pay to upgrade. Even with the upgrade, the sink was far too low and the soap holder got in the way. The onsen is at the hotel beside this one. Washers and dryers are free, but they’re heavily used.

The listing photos for the onsen and other amenities are from the hotel next door, which I found misleading. And this isn’t a 3-star hotel, despite what the travel websites say. There are no private toilets or showers. There’s just one shared shower and toilet for the whole building. The shower gets backed up with people waiting, and there was only cold water because everyone was using it. Doors slam loudly, the walls are paper thin, and people using the single shared toilet on the floor all night kept others awake. As a hostel, this place would be alright. But it was advertised and priced as a hotel, which felt poor and deceptive. I hope this helps others know what to expect.
