The sushi at Kamameshi Hatsune was delicious, and it helped make our stay at Hotel Fuji memorable. We were on the Henro pilgrimage in November 2024, when finding somewhere to stay was uncertain at best, and the owner really came to our rescue. We spent three nights in a spacious, comfortable traditional Japanese room with its own washbasin and toilet. I also loved the downstairs Ofuro, the old back massager in the foyer, and the little local backstreets.
It smelled of smoke and was really, really dirty. I had to change hostels.
It had cushions.
This felt more like a traditional inn than a place packed with Showa-era atmosphere. I could just make out voices from the room next door. My room had a Japanese-style toilet, though the shared toilet was Western-style, and there was a shared bath too. The lower the price, the better, but if all you need is somewhere to sleep, this will do (^o^).
I had a nostalgic, enjoyable stay at Hotel Fuji in downtown Muroto City. It’s an old building with old rooms, but there’s air conditioning and a big TV. The place has an interesting, old-fashioned feel, though to me it seemed more like a modern minshuku than the many older inns I’ve stayed in. It cost 5,000 yen. There was a sign that seemed to be for pilgrims, and there appeared to be few guests in the morning, so I got the impression they were on a pilgrimage. Meals, dinner and breakfast, weren’t included. The toilets are Japanese-style, though I heard Western-style ones are also available. To reach the bath, you have to walk over to the building beside the walkway. I miss baths like that 🎵 It was a lot of fun ☀️ There’s parking for about five cars, and payment is in cash in advance. Thank you very much.
