The host made our train trip easy with free pickups and drop-offs at Myoko kogen train station. The food was excellent, and the host has his own rice field. Bathrooms and toilets are shared and on the ground floor. Chair B on the ski slope is a three-minute walk uphill; the onsen and convenience store are five minutes away. Tokyo station is about three hours by train.

The ski resort is just a five-minute walk away, which is a great bonus. My brother and I both really enjoyed staying here. It's a welcoming, traditional Japanese place with delicious meals and a very pleasant stay. Don't come expecting a five-star hotel, but do expect a friendly owner and a proper Japanese-style experience.

The daily meals were the highlight for us, delicious and generous portions. It's a cosy inn with very friendly hosts, and they picked us up from and drove us back to the JR station. For full board, breakfast and dinner, the price is very good. It's right by the Sugi slopes, close enough that you can technically ski in and out. They also sell discounted lift passes that include a free local onsen visit. I'd definitely recommend it if you're looking for an authentic Japanese-style stay near the slopes.

The food was the standout, a superb spread every day for breakfast and dinner, and absolutely delicious. I'd definitely book both meals, 8300yen pp/night when we booked, since restaurant choices nearby are almost nonexistent and there are no supermarkets or convenience stores close by. It's an old-school, no-frills Japanese inn with tatami mats and shared sinks, dining area, toilets, and bathrooms. The place was clean, warm, and cosy. The host picked us up and dropped us at the station, and even took us by the lake to show us around. The inn sells discounted Suginohara lift passes, which come with free entry, usually 500yen, to Naena no yu, a few minutes' walk away. We used that instead of the shared baths at the inn. The hosts don't speak English, so making a reservation by phone is difficult if you don't speak Japanese. Messaging them on Facebook messenger with Google translate is recommended. Check with them directly even if booking sites say they're full.
