Star Hotel Akakura

The owners were welcoming and helped us get discounted tickets and arrange snowboard delivery through Yamato. They don’t speak much English, but that wasn’t a problem. At checkout they even offered us a ride to the station, which helped a lot. We stayed in December and found the place very comfortable. The hotel isn’t new or especially impressive from the outside, but our room was spacious for two and had a classic Japanese table warmer. There’s a small onsen that works well for one or two people, though more than three could feel awkward. The water is very hot at first, but you get used to it. A good affordable, comfortable stay.

We got a discount on lift tickets, and the hotel was close to the slopes and the place where we rented skis. It’s also at the top of Main Street, so everything was nearby, with a beautiful view. We came in February to ski, but heavy snow stopped the local train from reaching Myoko and left us stranded at the previous stop. The owner was incredibly kind and came to get us in a van, with another truck for our luggage. Our room was clean, the heaters were great, and the bathrooms and toilets were spotless and really nice. Such comfortable, thoughtful service. I can’t recommend the place enough.

The owner drove to a farther train station to pick up our large group when a huge storm left us stranded. We really appreciated that. The hotel itself was clean and quiet, and it was close to the ski resort and everything in town. I’d gladly stay again.

The room was spacious, and the owner was friendly. During the heavy snowstorm, he went out of his way to give us personal help.
