Guesthouse Miei

We were happy to find a reasonably priced place where we could stay with our dog. The owner was very kind, and we were satisfied overall. The building used to be a storehouse, and its renovated layout and structure were unusual. There weren’t any shops or vending machines nearby, and it would’ve been nice to have coffee in the morning, even if it cost extra. We also went to a nearby shrine, then stopped at a roadside station by Lake Biwa about a five-minute drive away.

I changed my plans on the way back from Nara, Wakayama, and Mie. I’d originally booked Kosoan on the shores of Lake Biwa, but an air conditioner malfunction led me to switch to Guesthouse Miei (Kura). It’s a renovated old house in the village of Kitafuse, rented out to one group at a time. The kitchen, toilet, washroom, and shower booth are on the first floor, with three beds upstairs. Only dinner was included, and the Japanese-style bento from Kitaomi no Yu (Kitaomi Resort) was delicious. It was the end of my trip, and after too little sleep and hiking in intense heat, I was exhausted and went to bed early. On my last stay, Kitaomi no Yu was closed so I couldn’t get a bento. This time, the air conditioner malfunctioned again, so it feels like I have some kind of odd connection with the place. I’ve gotten to know the owner pretty well, and I’ll stop by again if I get the chance.

We stayed here during a New Year's ski trip, and the owner was welcoming and kind from the moment we arrived. Having an AEON store and supermarket nearby made it easy to pick up ingredients for a hot pot party. Next time, we’d like to bring our dog along. Thanks to the owner for a pleasant stay.

My son and I stayed here while cycling, and he was thrilled to have the whole storehouse to himself. With all its little gimmicks and wooden staircases, it’s a fun place for kids too. The owner rides a bicycle himself, and kindly offered to drive us to and from the super bathhouse and convenience store. He also gave us advice and talked through things to do with the kids. It made for a wonderful day, the best. I’d definitely stay again, and the owner made me want to sit and talk about all sorts of things. Thanks so much!
