Dormy Inn Nagasaki Shinchi Chinatown Hot Spring

The beds were comfortable, and there's a Japanese bath as well as ramen served late at night. Staff were very helpful, even though I speak only a little Japanese. It's a very clean little hotel, within walking distance of several cultural attractions, though a taxi is best for getting to the peace park. I'd stay again.

Parking is available beside the main entrance on the right, in an elevator-style tower, for 1000 yen per night. It seems to be first come, first serve, with no way to reserve a spot. The rooms felt a bit small, even by Japanese standards. Otherwise, this had the usual Dormy Inn experience I like, with a nice artificial onsen and free noodles at night. I'd stay again if the price were right. Candeo next door has a similar concept, but feels more modern and has a much nicer public bath on the top floor with great city views. If the prices were similar, I'd choose Candeo.

The capsule was small but had enough room for sleeping, and came with a tiny TV, charger, radio and alarm clock. The bed was clean, quiet and comfortable. I had no problem using the public bath. Tram station is only a 2-minute walk away, and china town is nearby with lots of good food. The P/E ratio is high, and I'd definitely stay again. They also offer standard western style rooms.

I ended up having a wonderful stay, even though I booked last minute after several problems with previous hotels in Nagasaki. The room was cozy and had a wonderful city view. They offer free treats at different times: Yakult in the morning, which people in the reviews are sleeping on, popsicles in the afternoon, which I didn't try, and good ramen in the evening. I didn't pay for breakfast, so I can't say whether it's worth it. There's a convenience store right next to the hotel, which may help. Given all the trouble I had with those earlier hotels, I should've booked here from the start.
