Dormy Inn Premium Nagoya Sakae Natural Hot Spring

The parking is quite expensive, and unlike some other Dormy Inn hotels, there’s no convenience store right on the property, though several are nearby. The Sakae location is handy for dining and shopping, with lots of options in one of Nagoya’s busiest areas. Our twin room was clean and comfortable, and suited us well. The onsen was relaxing, and its outdoor area was a little larger than at other Dormy Inn hotels.

That check-in was ridiculous and is the main reason for my review. Instead of staffing a front desk with a few people, they installed computer terminals that were useless for anything out of the ordinary. The process dragged on, with three different staff members cross-checking details and then overriding the machines manually. It could have been simple and painless if they hadn’t put me through those terminals. After the same thing happened at the last four Dormy Inn's, I think I’ll avoid them from now on. It’s more hassle than going somewhere better equipped with a more personal touch.

The bathhouse was the best part of our stay. It’s clean, comfortable, open for long hours, and the hot spring water is excellent. There’s always a drink bar and popsicles, plus late-night ramen from 9:30 PM to 11:00 PM. Breakfast also has a pretty extensive menu. The room was small, with poor bathroom ventilation and a strong smell in both the room and bathroom. The shower felt cramped for an adult man, and bathing with kids was inconvenient, so we recommend using a public bathhouse. The hotel is close to the station and shopping district, with lots of nightlife nearby. Drunk pedestrians are common after 9 PM, so be careful if you go out.

The onsen was a highlight, clean and peaceful, with an indoor-outdoor layout and a relaxing feel that reminded me more of a ryokan than a city hotel. It was perfect after sightseeing or travel. The free soba noodles each evening were another nice Dormy Inn touch, and hit the spot after a long day. There were laundry machines, massage chairs, and even a relaxation lounge, all included or available for a small cost. Those details made this stay feel far above what I’d expect for the price. Dormy Inn PREMIUM Nagoya Sakae was one of my best value-for-money hotel experiences in Japan. For a mid-tier business hotel chain, it really overdelivered on comfort, facilities, and thoughtful extras.
