Nagoya Tokyu Hotel

The spa is on the small side, though there's also an impressive Olympic-size pool. Breakfast was quite good and offered plenty of options, and the rooms were comfortable and well kept. It's a large hotel in the middle of the city, easy to reach from the station and within walking distance of restaurants and local attractions. A comfortable place to use as a base while exploring Nagoya.

The service was excellent. Staff quickly and capably handled everything we asked, from a dinner reservation and a leaking faucet to a taxi to the bus terminal. The hotel is handy for getting around, with a 24-hour drug store and a FamilyMart around the corner. Oasis 21 bus terminal, Sakae Station on the subway, Sakaemachi Station on the Meitetsu Seto Line, Hisaya-odori Park, Mirai Tower, and several department stores are just a few blocks away. The airport limousine drops off right outside, though the airport-bound bus boards at the terminal. Our room was roomy and kept very clean by housekeeping, but the furnishings seemed dated. In winter, we couldn't switch on the air conditioning because the thermostat was locked. Turning off the heat didn't stop the room feeling stuffy and hot. The window only opened partway, so staff brought us an electric fan.

I spent a week here, splitting it between a standard room and an "exclusive" one. The standard was old, with stained carpet and mold on the joints, but it had drip coffee and a firm bed. The "exclusive" room was newer and cleaner, with a coffee machine and better soaps, though its bed was extra firm with no comfort layer and the pillows were poor quality. Staff were great, but the hotel itself was disappointing. You can hear every step from upstairs because the floor insulation is poor, especially if the person above walks normally. The gym is free only from 6-8 AM, and other amenities cost extra. My video showed housekeeping upstairs to demonstrate the floor noise, though it starts around 11 AM, so that wasn't much of a problem. With the noise, limited gym hours, and extra amenity fees, I wouldn't recommend it. If you do stay, I'd pick the standard room for its better bed.

On February 21, my husband left his backpack on the train from the airport to the hotel. Our documents and wallets were all inside, and we thought we were in trouble. Luckily, we met two wonderful women, including Ms. Tomoko Hasebe. They helped contact the railway station, and amazingly the bag was found. Ms. Tomoko Hasebe was so friendly and helpful. Meeting these kind people was the sweetest part of our trip.
