The room had a tablet to control everything, plus separate brightness knobs for the lights. Curtains blocked the light so well that I could sleep in easily. My only room issues were Wi-Fi disconnecting when I walked around and a smell like second hand smoke one night. I'm not sure why either happened, but neither was a big deal. The staff throughout the hotel were incredibly friendly and helpful. Rooms are spacious, the amenities are high quality, and there's lots of free water and toiletries a step above what I usually get at hotels in Japan. They also do turndown service each night. The location isn't right by the main Nagoya station, but a subway entrance and exit are right outside TIAD's front door, making it easy to get around the city and neighboring prefectures. Shopping, restaurants, and a park that runs for several blocks are on the same street. It's a 4* Marriott, so it isn't cheap, but I felt I got a lot for the money. I spent a week in Nagoya and talked with several locals who said TIAD is widely praised by guests. I can see why it's considered one of the best hotels in the city, even though I haven't tried many others there.

I prefer this neighborhood to the area around Nagoya Station, which feels more industrial and commercial. Around the Tiad it feels more human scale, with hundreds of restaurants within a 15-min walk. The hotel is near two train lines and across the street from Matsuzakaya department store, the oldest in the world, which has dozens more interesting restaurants inside. It's less than a five minute walk to bustling Sakae and its train station. The Tiad itself is exceptional, with 5-star-level facilities from the lobby bar and outdoor patio to the pool and guest rooms. My room was well appointed with bottled water and plenty of useful amenities. At check-in, you can choose the room cleaning and turndown service times, which I really appreciated. Over my four-night stay, every conversation with the staff in English was efficient, polite, and precise.

Getting around takes a transfer from the main train line, so the location isn't as convenient as it sounds. I also asked for help sending postcards, something I've done at many hotels in different countries, but this was one of only two that ever refused. With Japan Post mailboxes so common, and checkout often tight when you're trying to catch a flight, I expected this to be a standard service. A normal hotel managed it, so why couldn't a luxury one? I wouldn't stay here again. The excessive automation made the room a nightmare. Every time my partner got up in the night, all the lights came on and the curtains opened. They fixed it the next day, but after a long day of travel we were left with a sleepless night, and the bed wasn't comfortable either. The hotel won a Michelin for design, and I do question that decision. All shine and sheen, with no substance.

At US$400 per night, booked one night early, I got a traditional Japanese room with a lounge room. It would've been nice to have a window, though the bath was huge. The gym is great, but the aircon felt too hot, or was it on high? There was free fruit on the gym level. As at 2025, I'd call it the best hotel in Nagoya. The location is just a tad further out than Chunichi Building hotel, but the rooms are much better.

Our 2-night stay felt too short as soon as we walked into the room. We had a premier room on the 13th floor, with a wide open view over the city and greenery just outside the window that gave the space a different energy. The room was spacious, with a huge powder room, bathtub, and toilet, plus a Nespresso machine. It's a newly built hotel with a sleek, clean look and sophisticated architecture. The silky, smooth, soft linen and bedsheets made the room feel especially luxurious. This is a hotel we'll remember for sure.
