Toyoko Inn Nagoya Kanayama

The hotel is in a residential area, so it’s quiet, and there’s a Family Mart across the road. A walk takes about 10-15 minutes. There are also free shuttle buses to and from kanayama station, but only at scheduled times. I found the housekeeping staff friendlier than the front desk staff.

The staff were really welcoming, and breakfast was decent. The pillow was comfy, but the mattress was really hard, basically like a sofa bed. It’s a 10-15 minute walk from the station, a little way but doable. I’d give it 3.5 stars.

My main complaint was the toilets: on the canteen floor there’s only an all-purpose toilet and a women’s one. I had to go back up to my room on the 10th floor and only just made it. Otherwise, the room was good and there were plenty of elevators. I booked through booking.com and got a good discount. The buffet breakfast was okay, and while there’s no bar or cafe, the lobby has free coffee and a vending machine that sells beer. Staff were friendly.

We stayed for a couple of days and had no complaints. The rooms had enough space for both of us, and the staff kindly explained everything. Kanayama Station is very near: walking at a relaxed pace takes only 5 minutes, and there’s a free hotel shuttle as well.
