I booked through Agoda today, but the manager’s behavior was unacceptable. He asked for my ID, which I didn’t have with me at that moment. I eventually showed him one, but he rejected it, saying he needed a “new” version. He called this a Japanese rule. I know showing ID is standard, but I’m not aware of any specific rule requiring a new version once a guest has presented ID. Nothing about this requirement appeared on the website or during booking. He was rude throughout. First, he said he’d spoken with his superior and couldn’t check me in without that particular ID. When I asked for a refund, he told me to contact Agoda. I asked him to call them himself, but he didn’t. Instead, he spoke with someone else and said Agoda would call me to arrange the refund. After waiting for over an hour with no call, I left frustrated and found another hotel nearby, where they checked me in right away without these demands. I can’t understand how someone with such a poor attitude is working as a guesthouse manager.

The location is peaceful, and everything here went beyond what I expected. Santiago Guesthouse has helpful staff and a lovely common room in a traditional Japanese style. I really like these capsule beds: they’re spacious and dark, with a little table for your phone and things. It’s an ideal place to stay in Naha. Highly recommended!

The kitchen was well equipped, so cooking was easy, and there’s a sofa and TV in the Japanese-style living room. For me, the best thing was the location, close to a bus station, the monorail, and some restaurants. I had a fine stay, and it seems like an okay choice if you want to socialize and save money.

Don’t stay here. I’ve stayed in plenty of rough hostels around the world without a problem, but this was one of the worst. It was hot because the AC barely worked, and there are lots of cheaper hostels nearby with better AC. The kitchen was disgusting. There were no towels, which is normal but annoying, and the sheets they provided were gross. The bedspread was literally brown. Stay somewhere else.

The shared areas were a mess, and there wasn’t even toilet paper in the bathrooms. Then we found condom wrappers and contact lenses in our bed. I’m absolutely disgusted. A complete waste of money.
