When I left an important item behind after checkout, the staff drove it over to me. They were kind throughout my stay, and the room was clean and comfortable. Dinner and breakfast were both delicious. A perfect stop for a pilgrim.

The reception staff were very kind, but I can't accept the condition of the room. There was visible mold around the window, and a strong mold smell throughout, not from the tatami. I've traveled to Japan for many years and never stayed in a room that smelled this bad. The room needs renovating immediately, and I deserve a refund for this stay. Don't book the suite! Maybe the other rooms are better.

I paid about 6800 for a single room without meals. The breakfast buffet is a decent deal for an extra 360 yen. The bath is spacious and can be really enjoyable when it isn't crowded, though the public can use it too, not just hotel guests. I ended up sharing it with a local junior sumo club, who ran around, splashed, and carried on for more than 45 minutes. Hotel Nahari is a perfectly decent place, if nothing special, and seems aimed at seafood tourists. It's conveniently located for henro heading to temple 27, though a little pricey compared with ryokan and minshuku.

The onsen at the hotel was amazing, especially the outdoor bath with a lovely view of the stars. If you're a bigger person and booked a tatami room, ask for a second mattress. The futons are thin.
