The meals were a real highlight. Dinner had trout, beef steak, appetizers, soup, vegetables, and dessert, all full of flavor, and breakfast was wonderful too. With only around ten rooms, the hotel felt quiet and intimate. It has a traditional Japanese style, and we enjoyed wearing the yukatas they provided. Our room looked straight out over the lake, and the staff were exceptionally polite. The onsens were spotless, with natural thermal water like the public baths. You don’t need to reserve the private onsen ahead of time, and the outdoor baths have a beautiful lake view. They stay open all night. This was truly one of the best hotels we stayed at in Japan.

When we visited Lake Chūzenji, my husband was feeling unwell. The woman at the inn noticed him sitting quietly and gently checked whether he was okay. She let us check in early and made porridge for him at both dinner and breakfast. She was incredibly kind and thoughtful, and we’re so grateful.

Eating delicious food while looking out at the lake, with such friendly staff taking care of you, makes for a really lovely experience. The staff were exceptionally warm and attentive, and the food was as good as at a top-tier restaurant. The lake view is unbeatable, and the onsen is well worth a visit. A private bath is readily available without a reservation. Definitely the highlight of our trip.

The breakfast and dinner were both delicious every day, and we thought the stay was great value. The hotel is a little dated, but we found it charming, clean, and well maintained. The lake views are amazing, and the atmosphere is cozy. We’d happily stay again.

This was my best stay during my October trip. A lovely place to stay, with wonderful food and staff who were great at hospitality and service. It had everything I expected from traveling in Japan. It really felt like a point of pride for Japan.
