Dogashima NEW Ginsui

We spent two nights here in September, and the sunset really was as stunning as promised. The view from our room was so good that, with the midday heat and humidity, I didn't feel like going sightseeing. We didn't use the bathroom because it had a funny smell, and the Onsen had spectacular views anyway. It also has a nice powder room with plenty of separate vanity stations. Breakfast was another highlight. The buffet was huge, with lots of locally sourced produce, and I kept looking forward to it. There's a private pebble beach, but it was small, and even though I had my diving boots, I didn't feel like going in.

There are lots of ways to get out and explore: the hotel has a free shuttle to the marina, where you can see the little town, hike along the coast, or take a boat to the cave. The bus also stops near the hotel. Back at the property, half-board rooms come with a good breakfast and dinner buffet, and there are complimentary alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks all day, plus little snacks and a bath house. The rooms are dated, but the rest is so great that the basic bathrooms didn't bother me.

The food was excellent, and there were complimentary beer, drinks, and snacks too. The room was outstanding, the view was breathtaking, and the staff made us feel welcome right from arrival with exceptional service. I can't see why this is rated three stars, it deserves five.

My family and kids had a really good stay. It was peaceful and welcoming for children, and the staff were kind, attentive, and very friendly with my kids. They also communicated well in English. The breakfast buffet had a great selection.
