The dining area is where dinner and breakfast are served, not your room. The dishes are neatly arranged, but the food was average. It looked better than it tasted. The hot spring baths are on the ryokan’s first floor. They aren’t very large, but part is outdoors with a little view of the sky. It’s relaxing when nobody else is there. Wear the bathrobes after soaking unless you want your clothes to smell of sulfur. You can choose a Western-style bed or a Japanese futon. If you’re not used to futons, the hard floor might not suit you. The ryokan is toward the lower end of town, but the town is small, so it only adds one block of walking to reach the Hell's Valley area. On the upside, it’s closer to the bus terminal, so there’s less distance to carry luggage.

The food was abundant and delicious, with so many great seasonal dishes that we left each meal completely stuffed. We also loved our traditional tatami room, and the amenities and futons were perfect. My girlfriend and I came to Takinoya Bekkan Tamanoyu for our anniversary, after my sister and her husband recommended it from their own stay. The baths were just as she’d promised: hot, comfortable, and unforgettable, especially sitting in the spring water as snow fell around us. The clean, relaxing private bath had both indoor and outdoor sections. We had an incredible stay and would come back in a heartbeat. We’ll recommend this ryokan to friends and family too.

A good ryokan stay in noboribetsu, and affordable for what you get. The room and bathroom are a bit small, but manageable. There were lots of other tourists like us. The food tasted good too. Worth staying for the ryokan experience.

It’s really close to Jigokudani valley, about a five-minute walk. The staff are friendly and work hard, and the ryokan has a nice onsen with a traditional feel. We really enjoyed staying here. Dinner and breakfast were tasty kaiseki meals, nicely presented.

A lovely little ryokan, away from the area’s huge resorts. The rooms are spacious, the staff are so nice, and the meals are amazing and well worth the price. Both the public and private saunas are great. Highly, highly recommend!
