Tatsunokuchi Onsen Matsusaki

Meals are a big part of the stay here. We had a generous multi-course dinner with local specialties, including winter snow crab, wagyu, and pufferfish, and breakfast was included too. The service was excellent and traditional. Only one woman spoke some English, but with Google Translate we communicated fine. The staff helped with requests, including using their phone to make a reservation ahead, and they even washed our clothes for a small fee despite not officially offering laundry service. We stayed in a room with a private outdoor onsen, which was wonderful. There are gender-separated public baths, plus a private family onsen with indoor and outdoor baths that you can book by the hour. A regular shuttle runs morning and evening to the nearest train station, making it easy to get to Kanazawa or elsewhere. It looks far out on the map, but the location is needed for proper geothermal onsen water. For a relaxing ryokan stay near Kanazawa, I’d highly recommend it, and we’ll be back.

The attentive, friendly staff may have been the best part of our stay. The in-suite onsen was fantastic, and the whole visit felt relaxing and great value. One of the top highlights of our trip.

We loved the quiet setting, where you can really hear nature, and the shuttle made it easy to get to stations and into Kanazawa for a wander. The town’s arts, crafts, and food were lovely to explore. Back at matsusaki, we spent time in the tearoom overlooking the pond, enjoying matcha and other drinks. It’s a cozy place for a family getaway, and the onsens were lovely. We used the private one in our room every day, and the water left my skin feeling soft. There’s also a massage chair, which was a nice touch. Our three days here were wonderful from the start. The food was beautiful to look at and delicious, with different regional and seasonal specialties each day and excellent ingredients. Breakfast was great too. The service was impeccable, with care given to all the little details, and we felt looked after. The staff were kind and friendly, even though they didn’t speak much English. Nathalie was especially patient, and thanks as well to the man who laid out our futon. Sleeping on it was really relaxing, so I recommend it. After three weeks of holiday, Matsusaki was a wonderful break for us. The meals were superb, and the onsen was peaceful. The private outdoor bath on the 5 th was gorgeous, and the bathtub in our room was fantastic.
