The free shuttle to the mountain stops 20-30 metres from the front door, and the location worked well for us. It’s about a three- or four-block walk from the village, far enough from the noise and chaos we wanted to avoid. For what it cost, we loved staying here and would consider coming back. Just know what a Japanese Ryokan / Minsyuku is before booking. This is NOT a hotel with a bell desk. A guest was complaining about everything, from the pillow to the ski / board room and worrying someone would steal her gear, and even about leaving shoes out front instead of putting them away. The rooms were very clean, with no musty or dusty smell. The new tatami mats were nice, and we found the foam futon so comfortable that we checked the brand because we wanted one. The duvet was clean and fluffy. A heads-up about the traditional soba makura pillow: we like it, though first-timers may need to get used to it. The heater / AC controls needed Google Translate. The Japanese lady at reception and the helper were both kind and helpful. The bathroom is shared, as expected, and was clean. The sink area and garbage were cleaned daily. There were two washing stations, a shower, and a bath big enough for two. Laundry is available for 100 yen to wash and 300 yen to dry. We didn’t choose a meal plan because we weren’t sure what we’d be doing. Skis and snowboards have to stay in the garage storage room, which was large and had a wax board and a drying room for boots and clothing. It was clean too.
