We paid ¥25,000 a night during high season, and breakfast wasn’t included. The bath had to be booked in advance, and it was full, so we went without a shower for a day. The inn is far from the ski resort, and walking uphill in full ski gear would be a pain. I also felt uneasy because there was no blanket cover in the room. Parking next door costs ¥1,000 and has no cover. The next day we had to shovel the snow and clean the car ourselves. There must be better choices in Nozawa for a ski trip.

Rooms are small, but clean and comfortable, and the staff are kind and helpful. There’s free overnight storage for skis and snowboards. The ski lift is about a 15-20 minute walk away. Communal sinks and toilets are on the second floor, while the reservable onsen is in the basement. It’s open 5-10 pm and 6:30-9:30 am. Outside those hours, the showers don’t have hot water.

It was great value, especially with breakfast and dinner included. The hotel was quiet and traditional, and the staff were very kind. My partner and I stayed at a lot of hotels on our Japan trip, and this was my favorite. We had no problem with the onsen hours, though softer pillows would be good.

The rooms are really spacious. We had a three-person room for just the two of us and had plenty of space. Good value for money for a minshuku, and I’d stay again next time I visit.
