Nozawa Onsen Basecamp

I expected a pleasant two-room apartment with western beds and a bright, clean kitchen, but I found worn, uncomfortable tatami mats, old bedding with blood-stained pillows, and a kitchen that was absolutely filthy and disgusting. The gas burners were extremely dirty and greasy, with aluminum foil covering the wall, and several high-amperage kitchen appliances were plugged into one outlet via an extension cord. The kitchen, bedrooms, and bathroom also had bugs. There were leftover open bags of sugar, creamer, and other sundry items in the kitchen, so it’s not hard to see why. None of us wanted to cook. The apartment seemed sparsely furnished with donated furniture, appliances, and kitchenware. I can’t believe I paid $380USD per night for this uncomfortable, filthy dump. I’ve never been so disappointed in an apartment rental as I was with NOZAWA ONSEN BASECAMP. I want my money back! Check my enclosed photos for proof of how abysmal and overpriced this place was.

There were five of us in the family, and the accommodation was very comfortable. Our kids had a room with three beds and we had another room. The kitchen was clean and modern, with everything we needed, even a rice cooker. The ski lifts are a 5-8 minute walk away, and town is a five-minute walk down the hill. Excellent accommodation.

We stayed in the newly renovated three-bedroom apartment in January 24, and would definitely stay again. It was great, with lots of space for Japan, comfortable beds, and excellent cooking facilities. The location was excellent too, a five-minute walk to either gondola and three minutes to the centre of the village.

Jason was a good host and communicated pretty well. He gave us helpful advice and helped us get tickets to the Nazowa fire festival. We had a good experience and will book again for next year. We stayed at Nasowa Basecamp for a week in January 2024, about halfway between the main street and the Nagasaka gondola, with less than a five-minute walk to either. The apartment looked recently renovated, with a new kitchen and bathroom. I know the outdated kitchen had come up in earlier reviews of Basecamp.
