Hotel West

The room is roomy, and the bed is a good size for one person. The main drawback is the step between the bathtub and toilet. It’s conveniently close to the station. The facilities are old, but if you just need somewhere to stay, I’d recommend it.

I couldn’t get into my usual hotel, so this was my first stay here. It’s definitely old, though it didn’t seem especially unclean. At that age, it’s understandable if every spot isn’t perfectly clean. I booked a single room by chance but was given a double instead, which was spacious and comfortable. I can’t say if the singles are the same. The bathroom has the unusual setup of encouraging you to fill the tub with hot water before bathing, and I counted that as another plus. It’s close to Numazu Station, with a convenience store not too far away and bars nearby, so I ended up going out quite a bit. I was confused when they explained that the ECO plan meant no bed making or cleaning on consecutive nights. I hadn’t understood that when booking online. They did change the towels, so it wasn’t unclean, and I thought that was fine.

The room, bed, and bathroom were all clean and spacious, and though the place feels a little old, I found it very nice. From the stairs at the north exit, you can see the hotel sign right away. It says a three-minute walk, but it feels almost beside the station. I’d like to stay again when I come for a pilgrimage to the sacred sites.

For about 7,000 yen, the double smoking room for two people felt like good value. There were more outlets than in a typical business hotel, and having the bathroom and toilet separate was a plus. The facilities had some shortcomings, though: no humidifier or air purifier, and the amenities weren’t great. The conditioner was watery and poor quality, and the hairdryer was so old that we used our own. The partition between the bathroom and toilet only comes about a third of the way across, so showering gets the toilet wet too. Overall, it felt worth the price.
