ANA Crowne Plaza Osaka

A cockroach crawling on our clothes early one morning was the final straw after several nights of poor sleep. I reported it to the front desk and we were moved to another room down the hall, though I don’t know whether that helped since it was on the same floor. I asked whether our clothes could be cleaned, but the staff didn’t seem able or willing to help. We were busy, so I didn’t ask again. It was one of my most disappointing stays. We were there for five days. The room felt unclean, and the building and rooms are very old. The bathroom taps dripped and squeaked loudly when turned. The TV also briefly switched on and off in the middle of the night. I later learned the hotel would close in October, so I wasn’t expecting improvements. It’s about a 9-10 minute walk to the metro, with a Lawson just around the corner for snacks and an inexpensive quick meal. Cafe on The Park serves a breakfast and brunch buffet, and there’s a teppanyaki restaurant in the basement. Both are pricey, especially the cafe if breakfast isn’t included, though the food and drink selection is decent.

The room size was the only reason I gave two stars. The rooms weren’t clean, with thick dust everywhere and marks splattered on the walls. I’m allergic to dust, so that was especially disappointing. Most of the staff were rude as well. We were on our honeymoon, which made the stay all the more disappointing. I wouldn’t recommend it.

The Club room was lovely, despite what some reviews had led me to expect, and the club lounge service was fantastic. The hotel is well located, about an eight-minute walk from the nearest train station. What disappointed us was being told our room came with complimentary pool access, then having my husband turned away because of his tattoos. His tattoos were visible at check-in, and he was with me. If they’d brought this up then, or simply not offered pool access, we could have avoided the situation.

I really enjoyed breakfast on the first floor, with a garden view. There was a good range of food, including Japanese breakfast dishes, and the scrambled eggs were especially tasty and smooth. My room looked out over the river and was clean and well maintained. ANA Crowne Plaza Osaka is a classic-style hotel with various facilities. It’s conveniently located, less than a 10-minute walk from the MTR station, and there’s a convenience store a few minutes away. Ms. Saki Kamada was very helpful with my questions before I arrived. This was my first visit, and I’d be glad to return.
