Hotel Public Jam

The front desk lady was incredibly sweet and did what she could, so she gets an A+. The problem is the management and the place itself: it’s an active love hotel, but that wasn’t mentioned, and cigarette smoke was everywhere, even in the 🚭 areas. I had to get through one night and then check into somewhere else. As others have said, be aware this is a love hotel. Expedia and other booking sites should flag it with a caution or note.

We thought staying here might be a funny novelty, but it really wasn’t. This is an adult love hotel for adult activities, which is fine if that’s what you’re looking for, but it wasn’t right for our holiday. The room was huge and the price was low, yet it felt grubby and overdue for an update, unlike what the promo photos suggest. There were mirrors everywhere and heel marks on the leather around the bed. It took us ages to work out the fan controls, and the fan, two dehumidifiers, and air conditioning made it feel like sleeping in a tornado. The location wasn’t great either. We left after one night despite having booked longer, because being in the room wasn’t fun and we didn’t want to end our honeymoon on a low. There are much better hotels in the namba area.

The bathroom is huge, the tub is great, and there’s a nice TV. The staff are lovely too, and I’d certainly recommend the place. The bed is the one drawback. In typical love hotel style, it seems designed for one thing besides sleep, so side sleepers may find it painful. Otherwise, the location, room, price, and staff were fantastic.

Easy access to Namba (Dotonbori) in the evening, and we could get out to Nara to laugh at tourists and locals being hassled by deer. The hotel’s close to the station, with plenty of late-night food and beer nearby, and the amenities matched what we paid. Still, it’s definitely not a holiday or honeymoon spot. We stayed two evenings, which even surprised the staff, and got what may have been the plainest room there. Calling it an adult or love hotel seemed inaccurate too, since we weren’t offered any adult viewing or ordering options, possibly because we were tourists and didn’t pay by the hour. The bathroom had mold, and the mattress was stained and rock hard.
