Hotel Sobial Osaka Dome

The room was so cramped that reception had to remove furniture just to make space for two people and two suitcases. We reported bed bugs, but the hotel brought sheets and told us to make the bed ourselves. I know of three rooms that complained about bugs, and the sheets had stains too. The service staff weren’t polite. It’s near the station, but Dotonburi is about 30 minutes away, and getting to central Osaka takes 40 minutes to an hour. It could work if you’re on a budget and don’t care much about comfort. I think it was around $140 AUD a night. We were on a tour and couldn’t choose our accommodation. I wouldn’t stay here by choice.

The station is right across the street, which makes it easy to get around Osaka even though Umeda and Namba aren’t right nearby. Umeda is a few stops away on the Osaka Loop Line, and you can reach Namba in a few minutes via the Hanshin-Namba Line or Nagahoritsurumi Ryokuchi Line. There’s a bus stop close by too, along with convenience stores, restaurants, and izakayas. I liked the covered patio out front, a handy spot to wait for an Uber or just sit quietly. The lobby has a drink station with coffee and tea. Rooms are fairly spacious by Japanese standards, though you get the amenities at reception. The bathroom was clean and decent, just a bit cramped, and it had one of those great Japanese toilets. There’s a public bath, but I’ve used better ones in capsule hotels. A microwave is on every floor. I didn’t get to try the breakfast since I wanted to check out recommendations elsewhere. Still, for me it’s a solid 4/5 and good value with excellent transport links. I’d stay again in Osaka, especially if visiting Universal Studios Japan, Osaka Aquarium, or Expo 2025 Osaka.

The lobby was pleasant, and the front desk staff were kind and spoke excellent English. You can exchange money there as well. The breakfast buffet was surprisingly good, with chefs cooking in an open kitchen and lots of Japanese and Western choices, for about $12 per breakfast. We stayed at the Sobial Dome for two nights. The rooms were clean and matched the online photos, though the bathroom is small to share among two or three people, and the interior is simple and a little dated. The hotel is a one-minute walk from the station with plenty of Izakaya’s nearby. We didn’t try the bathhouse.
