ibis Osaka Umeda Hotel

We stayed at the hotel twice, with a hike on the Kumano in between. Before leaving the first time, we wanted to store two small backpacks. Khumi, one of my favorite receptionists ever, helped us follow the hotel's luggage storage rules and tied it to our return reservation a week later. It was a particularly pleasant and helpful interaction. When we came back, Khumi was there again and helped with additional arrangements, like a concierge would. We really appreciated her warm smile. The hotel is well located for direct underground access to the subway and trains. The rooms are small but very comfortable and efficiently laid out. It was a valued stop for us twice, thanks to the incredible staff.

The bathroom had plenty of room, and even though the bedroom was compact, it did what I needed. What stood out was how thoroughly everything had been cleaned, even the underside of the bathroom faucet, which often gets missed. I only stayed one night, but the room was spotless. The hotel is right by the subway on a main street, and for the price I think it’s worth it.

Breakfast was average, though I really liked the curry rice. I’d had some doubts after staying at ibis hotels in other countries, but this one changed my impression. It was clean, comfortable, and seemed well looked after. The Umeda location is very handy, with a connection to the underground area that makes it easy to reach different train lines without going outside. There are water dispensers downstairs too, which was a nice extra.

The staff handled check-in and check-out efficiently, and they’ll store your bags for free if you arrive early or want to explore before going to the airport. My room was clean and comfortable, with the pyjamas and humidifier I’ve found in many Japanese hotels, but not often elsewhere. I picked this hotel to be near Osaka Station and the Kansai Airport limousine bus terminal. I first walked over from Osaka Station at street level after arriving from Kyoto, then found the underground city beneath the hotel. Exit 772 leads to the Whity underground shopping mall, which links to several train lines and lets you get around without busy streets or traffic lights. I’d keep this among my top choices for another Osaka visit.
