Hotel New Arao

A male staff member checked in with me as I was leaving, asking whether the spring had been too hot and if I was okay. I later saw on YouTube that he was the hotel manager, and he came across as very friendly and nice. It made for a great visit and reminded me how good this hotel is. I went for a Sunday afternoon day trip after a few years away. The hot springs seemed improved, although the smell of the mall was a little stronger than before. The water felt good on my skin and warmed me through.

I stopped in around 5pm on the way back from Sugawara, after spotting that day trips were available. The spring water flowed freely from the source, and I enjoyed it. A local I spoke with inside said he visits once a week, which made me jealous of people who live nearby. The elderly man at reception had such smooth, glowing skin that I immediately thought the hot springs must be great. There was also a kettle in the lobby, a thoughtful touch.

The bath was relaxing, with good-quality water and an open-air option. I often visit Naruko Onsen, but this was my first time at this place, for a day trip.

The water feels moisturizing and is really nice. But it’s a shame guests can’t use the baths from 7am, so I can’t recommend the place to others.
