Sendai Hills Hotel

Getting around was surprisingly convenient for a hotel a bit out of the way for tourists, since taxis were always waiting. There’s also a mall right nearby for anything you might need. Breakfast in the dining area comes with an incredible view, and from the room I could watch rain roll in over the mountains or fireworks after a baseball game. The whole thing felt pretty grand. I saw a few small things that seemed off, but the stay was so good I can’t even remember what they were. The rooms are spacious, clean, and kept tidy, with no stains or marks on the walls or furniture. They have a 60s to 80s American hotel feel, which seemed intentional, like the place is preserving the golden age of domestic travel rather than letting the rooms fall behind. I’d stay again.

Six months ago, my stay here was amazing. On more recent visits, though, things went downhill. I booked a non-smoking room and was given one with a strong cigarette smell. I asked to switch and the replacement room smelled bad too. Stay away from this horrible hotel!

They upgraded us, and the people here were really kind. The rooms are big, the breakfast is great, and you should try the natto. The views are lovely too. The bodhisattva next door is breathtaking, so go see it as well.

The room was clean and a decent size. Just keep in mind that the onsen costs extra.
